This tool comes with two units. A sender and a receiver. The sender unit sends a tone through the wire and you would use the receiver to probe the wire until you hear the tone. This way, you are guaranteed to patch the right cable every time. You have the option of using the RJ11 plug that easily connects to telephone and RJ45 data jacks, or use the wire clamps to send the signal through
This saves precious time when you're trying to patch or terminate the right cables on either ends. There are three tone modes and an option to test polarity of the wire. The receiver has a loud speaker which you can control the volume as you're listening for tone, and a handy LED light to easily spot wires in low light conditions.
