Logitech Streamcam — A Webcam Built for Creators

I am recently in need of another webcam to record videos in eagle eyes format. Looking around, I came across the Logitech Streamcam. I’ve seen this camera before, retailing around 169.99. However, I found a listing on Amazon that was selling it for almost 50% off. So I decided to pull the trigger. Granted I know it was a little risky, it wasn’t “Sold by Amazon”, but it was “Fullfilled by Amazon” so if anything is wrong, I can just returning back to FBA and get a refund. After placing the order, the camera arrived at my house a couple of days later.

Looking at the box, it was a Logitech Streamcam, but it looks like it was for the Chinese Market, rather than the USA one. There was Chinese writing on the box instead of English words. The retail boxing looks exactly the same as the US one from my investigation, it’s just that the writing was in different language as you can see from my unboxing video below.

I’ve decided to just go ahead with the unboxing video just to compare with the other unboxing videos of the USA ones I’ve seen. The contents inside the box was exactly the same. Same camera, cables, and documentation. So I figure it’s one of two things. It’s either a “counterfeit camera” or “Chinese Domestic Market” version. I figure the only way I can tell that this is actually an authentic one is to install the Logitech software and see if it detects the camera and all the functions on the camera works. As you can see from the video, after plugging the USB in, the software detects it right away and I can actually use all the features of the camera. To me, the camera seems authentic, but just the Chinese Domestic Market version. I decided to keep the camera. At that price point, I can’t complain. Now let’s look at some of the goodies of this camera.

This camera can do Full HD 1080P @ 60 fps for sharp, natural video with very fluid motion. The software comes with Auto-Framing and Intelligent Exposure. Auto-framing keeps you in the center of the shot as you move left and right (something my Brio does not do). The intelligent exposure ensures you look good in different lighting conditions. Best thing about this camera is that it’s USB-C. A lot of companies still use USB-A connection on their devices which is annoying. USB-C is the future and I’m glad that Logitech decided to make it that. The only complaint is that I wish the back of the camera is also a USB-C connection like the BRIO. Instead, it’s hardwired into the camera. Sometimes I might want to run longer cables, and will have to use another extension cable instead of just swapping it out for a longer USB-C data cable. The Camera also has stereo microphones and a white indicator light signifying it’s in use.

The mounting system seems a little cheap for me. It works, but I have a feeling I’m going to break it easy. It is versatile but the clipping mechanism and the caddy that holds the camera is a little flimsy. Just don’t bend it very wide or it might snap. Aside from that, it works well if you decide to clip it on the monitor. If you want to use a tripod, you’ll have to use the caddy to clip it on the camera then clip it on the tripod. The tripod mount is not direct on the camera like the BRIO. Even with the camera mounted face down using the caddy, i sometimes feel but camera might fall down, but it should be OK since the camera is light and not too heavy for the mount.

Picture quality is sharp with a 78-degree field of vision. Should work seamlessly with popular software like Twitch, YouTube, OBS, Streamlabs OBS, etc. The companion software works great as well. Logi Capture software lets you add filters, text overlay, borders, and transition's. The software is really easy to use, but the. features are basic. If you want to use more overlays, pictures, and effects, using a free software like OBS is probably better.

All in all, I like this little camera. The Auto-Framing is a cool feature which I will use a lot since I move sometimes in my streams. If you can get this camera at the price I got it for, I think it’s a heck of a deal. For 169.99 though, there might be other better cameras out there like the Elgato Facecam. That’s pretty much it, thanks for reading!
